Before you hit the road this spring, take a moment to think about one thing: safety. Whether you're heading away for a long weekend or embarking on a full summer adventure, making sure your motorhome or caravan is in top condition will save you time, stress, and potentially a lot more.

Weight and load balance

Confirm your loaded weight is within your vehicle and trailer limits, check your tow ball down weight using a Milenco Tow Ball Weight Gauge, aim for around 7 to 10 percent of your trailer's loaded weight, and distribute gear evenly with heavy items low and close to the axle.

Tyres

Check tread depth and sidewalls for cracks or wear, inflate to the manufacturer's recommended pressure adjusting for load, and don't forget the spare, make sure it's road ready and accessible.

Mirrors and visibility

If your caravan or trailer is wider than your vehicle, fit Milenco Aero Towing Mirrors to stay compliant with NZ regulations, clean mirrors and windscreen before each trip, and check your rear camera, if fitted, works correctly.

Locks and security

Use Milenco Hitch Locks and Wheel Clamps to deter theft, ensure all doors, windows and storage hatches close and lock securely, and keep valuables out of sight.

Fire and first aid

Carry a fire extinguisher suitable for electrical and gas fires, fully charged, keep a first aid kit stocked and accessible, and store emergency contacts and insurance details where everyone can find them.
